Comparative study of experimental and CFD analysis for predicting discharge coefficient of compound broad crested weir

Abstract Present study highlights the behavior of weir crest head and width parameter on discharge coefficient a compound broad crested (CBC) weir. Computational fluid dynamics model (CFD) is validated with laboratory experimental investigations. In analysis through weirs, upstream over (h) crucial, where result mainly dependent upon length (L) in transverse direction to flow, water depth from channel bed. Currently, minimal investigations are known for CFD validations weirs. The hydraulic research measuring numerically carried out using FLOW 3D software. applies renormalized group (RNG) volume (VOF) method improved accuracy free surface simulations. Structured hexagonal meshes cubic elements define discretized meshing. comparative numerical simulations observations confirm performance CBC precise measurement wide range discharges. Series studies validation have led constant coefficients various heads crest. correlation predictions 0.999 mean error 0.28%.
